Normally, Digital Foundry focuses strictly on tech analysis and doesn’t dabble in “leaks,” but after numerous credible sources chimed in, the outlet has shared that it, too, is hearing whispers of Sony’s new portable project.
### PlayStation Handheld: Progressing Faster Than Expected
John Linneman from Digital Foundry disclosed that his crew got wind of Sony’s handheld ambitions several months ago, so they were already in the loop before Bloomberg spilled the beans recently. Before that, a hint came from Tom Henderson, a well-known leaker. Interestingly, the first whispers about this new gadget date back to early 2024.
From what Linneman has gathered, the development of the handheld seems to be a bit further along than the initial leaks suggested. “We’re not typically in the business of spilling the beans, but it’s fascinating that this story is finally making the rounds because it kind of confirms what we’d seen and heard off the record before,” expressed Linneman on Reddit. He also speculated about the existence of prototypes, saying, “I think there’s, like, prototype stuff out there.”
We’re still in the dark about whether this device will actually hit the market, but there’s a growing belief that handheld consoles will play a key role in the next generation of gaming.
