If you’ve been hunting for an awesome action game to dive into, boy do I have some news. So, Dead Island 2 — yep, the one after that 2011 hit and the 2013 sequel Riptide — is up for grabs for exactly zero dollars. I’m not making it up. The Epic Games Store’s giving it away on PC. Totally free. I mean, why wouldn’t you snag it?
This whole deal is part of Epic’s regular freebie bonanza. It’s sticking around till, let’s see, May 22, 2025 — that’s next Thursday if you’re keeping track — and it ends at 8 a.m. Pacific, 11 a.m. Eastern. Got to say, snagging it is just a few clicks away. Even if you’re a console devotee and PCs don’t do it for you, free is free, right? Just grab it.
Back when Dead Island 2 launched in April 2023, I gave it four and a half stars. Why? Well, it’s an action-horror lover’s dream come true and everything a fan could hope for. Still think it’s among the top action games we’ve seen in recent years. Slashing through the undead chaos is a blast, whether you’re solo or chilling with friends in co-op mode.
Oh, and before I sidetrack, there’s this image in my brain — maybe because of the details that stuck with me. It paints Dead Island 2’s absurd level of gore. I mean, call it over the top… that doesn’t even cover it. Seriously.
Anyway, in this sequel, we’re talking post-quarantine Los Angeles. Zombies galore, physics-based brawls, and you battling it all out. Each type of zombie there demands some different tactic. Pick your character wisely, as some are pros at causing mayhem with the undead, while others are stealthier, dealing critical damage in the shadows. You’ve got these skill cards cropping up as you go along, boosting your combat moves, unlocking new tricks. Oh, and the weapons — you’re customizing everything from electric hammers to fiery swords. It’s honestly wild.
Hell-A is basically this open playground; it’s chaotic and fun. Those animations? Spot on. And then there’s this super intricate gore system — the “Fully Locational Evisceration System for Humanoids” (Catchy, right?). No joke, one of the most intense melee systems I’ve ever encountered. Combine that with top-notch visuals and a plot that’s pure cheesy B-movie gold. Seriously, play it already.
Okay, here’s the catch — the game’s free only on PC through Epic. No luck if you’re on Xbox or PlayStation, unless you use Xbox Game Pass, of course. At least there are some sweet discounts on other platforms right now, so you can still grab it for less than that full $49.99 price tag. Go for it, if you get the chance.
