So, here’s the thing with the Nintendo Switch 2 shortage saga—yeah, it’s a saga now. Shuntaro Furukawa, big shot at Nintendo, had to say sorry ’cause, guess what? Everyone wants their shiny new console, and there just aren’t enough to go around. Like, who would’ve seen that coming? Oh right, pretty much everyone.
He laid it all out during this mega-serious shareholders meeting, which I bet was as riveting as watching paint dry. But hey, it’s kinda important, so here we are. Furukawa is like, “Yeah, everyone wants one, and we’re seriously sorry if you can’t get your hands on it. Even the shareholders’ aunts and tennis partners are out of luck.” Good times, huh?
In Japan, they thought they’d be all clever by doing this lottery thing on My Nintendo Store. You know, so many people applied, it was like expecting free cake at a party—you just know it’s gonna run out. Over 2 million folks threw their hats in the ring, and naturally, not everyone could win. Furukawa even had to tweet or whatever on X about it, and apologize… again. Man, can’t catch a break.
And still, they’re doing these lottery draws—like, four times already, and number five is coming in July. Seriously, it’s like waiting for a unicorn riding a rainbow. But here’s the kicker—now some stores have started selling these babies outright, no lottery nonsense. So maybe there’s hope yet?
But Nintendo is saying, “Don’t worry, we’ll pump out more consoles.” So cross your fingers, knock on wood, or perhaps offer a small sacrifice to the electronics gods if that’s your thing—because these consoles are flying faster than hotcakes.
The Switch 2 dropped alongside Mario Kart World, which, no surprise, has folks buzzing. And the line-up’s packed with titles like Donkey Kong Bananza, and Super Mario Party Jamboree—more than I can wrap my head around. There’s even something called Drag x Drive, which sounds like a wild Saturday night.
Prices are kinda steep, though—£395.99 if you’re chilling in the UK, €469.99 for the Europeans, and $449.99 for folks in the States. Hopefully, you weren’t planning to eat this month.
Anyway, they’ve got this fancy launch trailer out, so go check it if you’re into that sort of thing. Seriously, good luck finding one—and if you get your hands on a Switch 2, maybe go buy a lottery ticket next.
