Samsung’s latest tech… or the lack of it? Yeah, they’re cooking up this mixed reality headset, dubbed ‘Project Moohan’ for now. Didn’t really make a splash at their big Unpacked event last month—or even at Google I/O earlier. But don’t freak out, they say it’s still on track to drop this year.
So, during their earnings chat, they’re all like, “Hey, our XR headset and TriFold phone are coming,” says Daniel Araujo from Samsung’s mobile gang. But seriously, we’re still left hanging about the actual name, release date, or—let’s be real—the damage on our wallets.
Saw this pic (like, nice courtesy shot from The Verge) of Project Moohan, looking all mysterious. Oddly enough, Samsung just isn’t throwing this thing into the limelight. Even at Google I/O, it was kinda just… there. A chance missed, maybe? Android developers are practically the backbone for the apps on that new Android XR system.
And, oh yeah, totally ghosted at the Samsung Unpacked event in July. It seems like these guys are keeping their cards close with both Moohan and this TriFold gizmo. Are we getting another reveal before year’s end? Who knows.
Here’s what we know—a tiny glimpse into the specs: Project Moohan rocks the Android XR on a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 + Gen 2. Sony’s micro-OLED panels are in there, but they kept mum about resolutions. Think pancake lenses (not the breakfast kind), auto IPD adjustments, eye and hand-tracking, some sort of light shield, and—you guessed it—an external battery you can swap out. Controllers? They’re in the cards, apparently, but we haven’t seen ’em.
For all the juicy bits and hands-on goss from December 2024, dive into our Moohan piece—covering comfort, display surprises, and how Android XR feels like a mashup of Horizon OS and VisionOS. Exciting times, right? Or just more waiting…
