God bless Yuji Horii’s complete lack of a poker face. No joke.
So, you know this guy, right? Part of the “Dream Team” behind Chrono Trigger. Well, apparently he’s got zero chill when it comes to secrets. Like, not even a little.
Anyway—oh, right—the story. So there’s this comic con thing in Napoli, Italy. Picture it. You’ve got Yuji Horii, the guy who’s basically a legend for the Dragon Quest series, just chilling on a panel. And what happens? He kinda, sorta spills the beans about a Chrono Trigger remake. I mean, did he mean to do it? Who’s to say? Maybe he slipped up, maybe not. But when the panel host nudged him for more info, Horii does this dramatic mouth-cover thing and the translator throws out a “you heard nothing.” Cue the crowd losing it. I’d have paid to see that.
And oh man, it’s not his first oops. Back in July 2015, Horii was like a fountain of leaks. Funny thing was, he let slip about the English versions of Dragon Quest VII and VIII. The first leak was practically ancient in Japan, over two years old. And just when you think he’s done, he talks about Dragon Quest XI being on the “NX,” which, plot twist, is the Switch. Even though it was supposed to be a PS4 and 3DS thing. Wild, huh?
So, fast forward to March 11, the exact day Chrono Trigger hits its big 30 in Japan. Square Enix teases there’s more celebrating in store. But ah, mystery reigns ’cause they’re tight-lipped on what exactly that means.
Honestly, Yuji Horii, you’re a gift. Never change.
