Almost four years have passed since the launch of Resident Evil Village for the PS5 and PS4. During this time, Capcom has continued to expand the franchise with titles such as Resident Evil Re:Verse and the remake of Resident Evil 4. However, fans are still eagerly waiting for news on the next major release.

There is a buzz of excitement among fans as a well-known leaker suggests we might finally catch our first glimpse of Resident Evil 9 this year.

Dusk Golem, renowned for their insider scoops on horror video games, has hinted that Resident Evil 9 is likely to be unveiled this year. They suggest that the delay in the game’s revelation is due to its ambitious scope, portraying it as a “big reinvention of the series.” This transformation is on par with the impact brought by Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7, both of which significantly redefined the franchise.

A tweet from Dusk Golem emphasized the ambitious nature of RE9, stating, “The reason this game is taking so long is because it’s like a big reinvention of the series, similar to RE4 & RE7. It’s not going to play just like RE7 or RE8 or the remakes; it’s venturing into new territory and very ambitious. It will almost definitely be revealed this year, so just hold tight.”

While concrete details are scarce, rumors abound about the direction Resident Evil 9 might take. Some speculate that this new chapter could embrace an open-world format, steering the beloved horror series into uncharted territory.

One thing we do know for sure is that Koshi Nakanishi, who played a pivotal role in Resident Evil 7, is spearheading the development of this latest installment. This was confirmed at Capcom Next last year.
