Kluge Interactive, the team that brought us the acclaimed VR rhythm game Synth Riders (2019), has revealed their next venture: a VR fighting game called FINAL FURY. It’s set to make its debut in early access on Quest and SteamVR headsets very soon.
Mark your calendars for May 8th! That’s when Final Fury arrives on Quest 2 and newer models, as well as PC VR headsets. This arcade-style fighter is bringing the classic 1v1 battles we all love to VR, but with a twist: a gesture-based gameplay system that promises to be unique and engaging.
The game was developed with insights from none other than Justin Wong, a nine-time EVO champion. It’s designed to blend hand gestures with actual room-scale movement, allowing players to truly step into the shoes of six distinct fighters. Each one comes with its own set of moves and stages, and more content is expected after launch.
“When Kluge Interactive approached me about FINAL FURY, I was immediately drawn to their idea of bringing traditional fighting game mechanics into a VR setting,” Wong shared. “After testing and providing feedback on features like dashes, grabs, and play styles, I look forward to seeing players dive into this immersive experience during Early Access.”
When the game launches in early access, here’s what you can expect:
- You are the Fighter! Dive into fully immersive VR combat with realistic punches, dodges, and blocks.
- Innovative VR Combat: Experience the nostalgia of older fighting games, but reinvented for physical interaction.
- Expanding Roster: Start with six fighters, each with unique powers, arenas, and styles, and watch the roster grow over time.
- Arcade Mode Unlocks: Battle the AI to unlock new fighters, stages, and cosmetics.
- Online Multiplayer: Engage in cross-platform battles with rollback netcode ensuring smooth and competitive play.
- Pulse-Pounding OST: Get pumped with an original soundtrack by Zardonic, known for their work on SUPERHOT: MCD.
Excited to jump in? You can add Final Fury to your wishlist on the Horizon Store for Quest 2 and up, or on Steam for PC VR headsets. It’s launching on May 8th and will be available for $9.99.
