Sony has just rolled out an exciting update to the PlayStation VR2 App, a development that now allows the headset to seamlessly interact with SteamVR content. This latest enhancement goes a long way in addressing the nagging controller tracking issues that many users found frustrating.
Version 3.0 of the PlayStation VR2 App introduces a novel feature: a “Bluetooth connection quality” check. This tool helps users gauge how effectively their controllers are communicating with their computer systems.
When the app originally hit the market in August 2024, enabling PSVR 2 to play SteamVR games was a major breakthrough. However, the initial excitement was dimmed by widespread reports of controller tracking problems. This was largely due to the fact that the required PSVR 2 PC adapter lacked the necessary hardware for controller connection, forcing users to rely on standard Bluetooth links directly to their PCs.
The crux of the issue lies in Bluetooth adapters, which vary significantly in their efficiency. Factors such as their placement within the computer and potential interference from other Bluetooth signals can seriously degrade connection quality.
Sony has thoughtfully provided a list of officially supported Bluetooth adapters along with troubleshooting steps aimed at identifying issues with the connection quality. Despite these efforts, some users still find themselves grappling with the problem even after purchasing recommended adapters.
With the addition of the “Check Bluetooth Connection Quality” option in the v3.0 update, users now have a practical resource to determine whether a subpar Bluetooth link is to blame for their controller issues. If Bluetooth isn’t the issue, users might consider other environmental factors such as reflective surfaces or unusual lighting conditions.
Moreover, this update has also tackled a delay in the controller’s vibration feedback and introduced various performance and stability enhancements to the app.
This latest update follows on from version 2.5, which was released back in December. That version sought to clarify Bluetooth-related tracking issues by alerting users when a poor connection was detected, paving the way for users to troubleshoot more effectively.
