Well, here goes my attempt at making sense of this whole thing. So, you know Dropout, right? Used to be College Humor? Yeah, they’ve got this show, Game Changer… and people are loving it. It’s like comedians doing crazy stuff—games that mess with your head and make you laugh till your sides hurt. But here’s a thought that struck me mid-coffee sip: What if they turned this madness into an actual video game? Seriously, why not?
Caught up with Sam Reich on a Zoom call. He’s the big guy over at Dropout; also the host of Game Changer. We were chatting about the games, how they’re cooked up, tested (probably with a lot of “oops” moments), and tweaked. Had to pop the question—have they ever dreamed about turning these shows into a video game?
Reich hits me with, “Yeah, for sure.” Like, they’re definitely into the idea. It could be something based on Dimension 20 or Game Changer. But—and here’s where it gets tricky—they want it to feel like them. No selling the soul to random developers. It’s gotta have their vibe, their chaos. And apparently, that’s tough when you’re juggling a million things. Bandwidth is a killer, I guess.
Oh, and making games? Super expensive. Takes forever, too. Imagine coding jokes, right? When I pushed a bit—like, are these solid plans or just pie-in-the-sky stuff?—he assured me they’ve got ideas brewing. They’re inching towards it.
They’ve even dipped their toes in with these little web games. Like, are these mini-experiments? Reich says it’s their way of learning the ropes. Testing the waters, seeing if they can even speak the language of gaming.
Reich seemed pretty gung-ho. A Game Changer game might just happen. When? Your guess is as good as mine, but he seemed optimistic.
Oh, and if you’re following Game Changer’s wild ride, season 7’s finale is dropping on August 11, only on Dropout. So mark that on your calendars—or not, if you’re like me and forget to check half the time. Anyway, what was I even saying? Right, video games. Stay tuned or something.
