Oh man, so I was just browsing the PS Store the other day — you know, like I often find myself doing when I should be, I don’t know, doing something else useful? Anyway, I stumbled upon this game called Rollerdrome. Did you ever hear of it? Launched back in 2022. Kind of hard to describe, but, well, picture this: stylish, arcade-y action. It’s got that vibe.
So, yeah, there’s this massive sale going on right now. Rollerdrome’s down to $7.49, from its usual nearly 30 bucks. Crazy, right? Slashed by 75%! But heads up if you’re interested — and why wouldn’t you be, especially at a discount like this? — the sale’s only until August 14 at, like, 2:59 a.m. ET or some weird early hour like that. Make of that what you will.
Uh, where was I? Right, the game. It’s set in 2030, a time when apparently corporations are running the show, and what do people do? They dive into some intense blood sport called Rollerdrome. Curious, huh? It’s as if reality TV took a dark turn or something. And there’s this whole plot about uncovering what this corporation, Matterhorn, is really up to. Mystery and action all rolled into one.
When it first hit the PS4 and PS5 scene, it got folks chatting. Seems like it did pretty well with critics too. Metacritic has it averaging a score of 79. Not too shabby. ComingSoon.net (which I always end up on somehow) threw a 7.5 out of 10 at it. Not perfect, but hey, it’s got style — more than some others, apparently. The way they described playing it, it sounds almost calming once you get into the rhythm of it all. Imagine shooting in slow motion while ramp skating or something — got a real movie feel, I’d bet.
Oh, and during the awards season, this game picked up a couple of nominations, even snagged one. Won best British game at the BAFTAs if you can believe it. So maybe there’s more going on beneath the surface than you’d initially think.
Anyway, tangent over. If you get your hands on it, let me know what you think. Or don’t. No pressure.
