Okay, so picture this: I’m just sitting there, minding my own business, when I hear about this game, Arken Age. And no, it’s not like I’ve been searching for it or anything—just stumbled upon it, really. It’s already been on PSVR 2 and PC VR or whatever, but now they’re saying it’s coming to Quest 3 in November. Quest 3 and 3S only, mind you. I guess Quest 2 is too old now. Makes me feel ancient, honestly.
So, here’s what’s interesting: it’s one of those games that’s just, I don’t know, stuck with me. Like a song you can’t get out of your head. Maybe it’s because these developers clearly love their VR. I mean, who doesn’t like games that remind you of Stormland or Lone Echo? Those games were like the holy grail of immersion, with gameplay that makes you feel like you’re swimming in a sea of pixels. Who could forget the feeling of grabbing onto something that’s not there?
And Arken Age? It’s got all this climbing and combat, both with swords and, like, guns or something. Plus, there’s the exploring part which… Yeah, that’s usually not my thing unless I’m mentally prepared to get lost for hours, but it just works here. Two things that probably make it all work are this fancy stuff they call embodiment and diegetic design. Sounds like the kind of jargon someone would use to sound smart, but it seems to do the trick for AI.
The graphics—I can’t believe I’m saying this—are actually better than most VR games. It’s like they managed to squeeze Xbox-level graphics into a headset. Everything looks so crisp, so alive that you forget you’re not. And get this: it looks decent on the Quest despite all that hardware jazz. I’ve watched the trailer so many times I could recite it, and each time? It’s like unboxing a new gadget.
I don’t know what they’ll charge for it, probably an arm and a leg knowing gaming these days, but who’s counting? You can wishlist it on the Horizon store if you’re, like, one of those people who plans ahead. Anyway, November’s not too far off, and I’ll probably forget about it until then. But hey, if you happen to have a Quest 3 lying around by that time, give it a spin. Can’t promise it’ll change your life, but who knows, right?
